2022 Tatler Asia The Most Influential

Lin Pey-Chwen was born in Ping-tong County, Taiwan in 1959. She received a Doctor of Creative Arts from the University of Wollongong, Australia in 1996. She was chairwoman of the Graduate School of Multimedia and Animation Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, professor of Dept. Multimedia and Animation Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, and chair professor and Dean of College of Planning and Design, China University of Technology. Currently, Lin serves as art director of “Lin Pey-Chwen Digital Arts Lab”, director of “Taiwan Art & Technology Association”, and honorary chairwoman of “Taiwan Women’s Art Association” (TWAA). She has received many art awards and recognitions, including Taiwan Chung-Shing Award, Taiwan Public Art Award, Red Dot Award, One of The Best Asian Artists Selected by Picasso Mio, The First Prize (FELLOWSHIP PRIZE 2020 – Platinum Certificate Award in Art Project category) in Art Woman 2020 International Exhibition, PPLG Project & Services for the Culture and Contemporary Art Italy, and Australian Visa of Distinguished Talent, and 2022 “Tatler Asia” The Most Influential artist, etc.
Lin’s artworks have gained worldwide recognition including featured artworks in 40 Years Edition of Chronicles of Taiwan Contemporary Art (2012), a report in the Special Column of Global Women’s Museum IGNITE in the USA, exclusive interview with Archive of Digital Art(ADA), and the Special Column of PripheralARTeries Biennial featured artworks in “agideas International Design Forum” in Australia and “The Borders of Digital Art International Symposium” in the University of Oxford in England, 2022 TECHART Conference in Korea etc. In 2019, she became the recipient of Lorenzo il Magnifico, the winner of the first prize in the “new media art” category of Italy XII Florence Biennial of International Award.
After coming back to Taiwan from America in 1989, Lin first had a solo exhibition at American Cultural Center and joined the contemporary art group “Apartment 2” upon invitation. In 1998 she published Women Art Discourse, the first book on Taiwanese female artists. Later she co-founded the “Taiwan Women’s Art Association” (TWAA) with other established female artists and became one of the major promoters of Taiwanese women’s art. Since 2010, Lin has initiated contextual research and a series of exhibitions of digital art in Taiwan. She published the first Taiwan digital art book, “Taiwan Digital Art E-Files”, which marks her as the widely-acclaimed pioneer of Taiwan digital art. Her works have been invited to many exhibitions all around the world such as Queens Museum in New York, Exit and Via Art Festival in France, WRO Media Art Biennale in Poland, Ars Electronica 2021: Garden Hong Kong, Taipei Biennial, Taiwan Biennial, etc. Her achievements have been documented in many art journals and art history books internationally, such as n.paradoxa International feminist art journal, East Asian Journal of Popular Culture, International Journal of Cultural and Creative Industries, and History of Contemporary Art in Taiwan, etc.

Achievements of Lin Pey-Chwen Digital Art Lab
Pey-Chwen Lin founded “Lin Pey-Chwen Digital Art Lab” in 2001 as part of Department of Multimedia and Animation Arts at National Taiwan University of Arts. Many works created by the lab’s members with Prof. Jason Lee’s technical assistance have gained many awards such as Taipei Art Awards, Taipei International Digital Art Award, Da Dun Prize, K. T. Award, Taipei Performance Art Prize, 404 International Art Festival, International Shanghai Electronic Art Festival, Chinese Character Art Festival, Taipei Shanghai 2 Cities’ Cultural and Art Exhibition, International D&AD Student Awards in England, Siggraph Asia, Arte Laguna Prize in Italy, The Special Jury Award and the First Prize in Enghien-les- Bains Digital Art Festival in France. In 2010, Professor Lin led a team to create the interactive performance works “Nexus” and “Happening Rehearsal “have selected by Taipei Interactive Performance Award. “Nexus” even gained a grant from Taiwan’s Council of Cultural Affairs’ flagship program for technology and performance arts. This work was also nominated during the 12th International Prague Quadrennial. ”Lin Pey-Chwen Digital Art Lab” is one of the most important digital art groups in Taiwan with lot of international achievements and reputation.
